SILVER STARS SELECT SHENISE JOHNSON WITH THE NO. 5 PICK IN THE 2012 WNBA DRAFT

SAN ANTONIO – With the fifth overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft presented by Boost Mobile, the San Antonio Silver Stars selected guard Shenise Johnson from the University of Miami. “Shenise is a player that brings a lot of versatility, not only in her game but to the lineup,” head coach and general manager Dan Hughes said. “She can play any position from the 3 to the 1. She also brings a high degree of athleticism and a high degree of skill. I’ve been most impressed with her ability to make basketball decisions, she had almost a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio as a senior even though she was highly guarded by other teams. We’re really excited to get her into a Silver Stars uniform and blend her with the people we have.” A two-time All-American, Johnson started all 131 games during her collegiate career, marking the longest streak in the nation. She averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds during her senior season, commanding five All-America team selections in 2011-12. The 2010

Zimmerson's Arrest...Just the Beginning to Justice

Source:  www.csmonitor.com By Patrik Jonsson,  Staff writer  / April 12, 2012 Angela Corey, the  special  prosecutor in the  Trayvon Martin  shooting, commended the Sanford Police Department for assisting in the investigation that resulted in the arrest Wednesday of  George Zimmerman  on second-degree murder charges for his role in the death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.   But when she turned to thank local law enforcement officials, only two undersheriffs stood there, neither of them from Sanford. To some observers, including supporters of the Martin family, it was a reminder of how close the  Florida  justice system came to a very different conclusion in the case. The night of the shooting, Sanford police released Mr. Zimmerman without charges; department  Chief Bill Lee  later told the Martin family that no arrest would be forthcoming. After a boisterous and sustained public outcry,  Gov. Rick Scott  appointed Ms. Corey to look into the case – beginning a process that

Commissioner Adkisson Speaks Openly...About the Right to Privacy

Image
by Laura Thompson I had an opportunity to interview Commissioner Tommy Adkisson on Thursday of last week.  He spoke about his battle to maintain his privacy, as a public official.  His bravery and willingness to stand up will benefit all public officials.  The request made by the daily newspaper in San Antonio, Texas to turn over emails from his private AOL account has turned into a case that may very well end up in the Supreme Court.  Commissioner Adkisson spoke very candidly about his position in this case and TAAN is publishing this story totally in the words of the Commissioner. APPEALING ATTORNEY GENERAL'S RULING "Had a hearing in front of the Travis County District court appealing the Attorney General’s ruling that I had to turn over my private information from my AOL email account.  I resisted because I gave them everything I had on my public emails.  They can get anything the county owns.  It’s theirs.  I don’t have any problem with that, I’m happy to give it
