Pastor Keely Petty Helps Break the Silence About HIV/AIDS Among African American Women

I had an opportunity to speak with Pastor Keely Petty today and she is very well versed on the silent killer among African American women....HIV/AIDS.  What she means by silent killer is that there is very little information available and made public that speaks to the deadly disease. Pastor Keely says that more education and awareness needs to be made available to African American women about AIDS.  HIV/AIDS can happen to anyone...says Pastor Keely, "the disease is caused by behavioral sexual activity" and African American women are not getting tested until it is too late to do anything about it. She travels across the country and speaks very candidly about the disease.  Pastor Keely says she lost a brother to HIV/AIDS back in the 80's, so she's on a personal mission to educate anyone who will listen about the danger of the disease and works more towards helping African Americans change their behavior. Huston-Tillotson Beta Kappa Chapter, AKAs Celebrates 60 Years of Service

Thompson, Mrs. Gladys Fielder, Mrs. Charlesetta Finley. Seven Charter members of Beta Kappa Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. returned to Huston-Tillotson University for the 60th Anniversary Celebration in Austin, Texas on February 10 , 2013.  On February 18, 1939, Alpha Nu was birthed on the campus of Tillotson College in Austin, Texas.  Alpha Mu Chapter was chartered on February 22, 1930, on the Campus of Samuel Huston College, Austin, Texas.   On March 7, 1953, Beta Kappa Chapter began a long exciting journey of sisterhood and service on the campus of Huston-Tillotson College, now Huston-Tillotson University. Leaders of Tomorrow presents "Souls of Young Girls" Panel Discussion

Mark your calendars for March 23rd for an awesome event for young girls and young ladies 11 - 18 years old.  The Leaders of Tomorrow with host an event entitled Souls of Young Girls.  Your daughters, nieces, granddaughters...are invited to talk about their self image at a workshop that will be held at the Delta House. Register by March 15th.  The event is free and seating is limited. Print out the flyer and application to register a young girl to attend this very important event. The Souls of Black Girls is a provocative news documentary that takes a critical look at media  images--how they are instituted, established and controlled. The documentary also examines the relationship between the historical and existing media images of women of color and raises the question of whether they may be suffering from a self-image disorder as a result of trying to attain the standards of beauty that are celebrated in media images.  The documentary features candid interviews with
