Independence Has its Costs

Image
Controversy surrounds my candidacy for District 120 State Representative. I am currently the sitting State Rep for District 120. I am the first Independent in the House in over 50 years. I filed to declare that I would be running as an Independent in October 2015. I came in first in the Special Elections in May and won the runoffs in August. Express News will be coming out with two articles, one about a recent warrant that was published all over the media and about some checks that were written, paid in full and dismissed over 21 years ago. I didn't know that running for an Independent would bring about this much attention. Some people are in the discredit business. If a case has been dismissed and a person does the right thing and turns themselves in on trumped up charges what more can a person do. I wanted to be on the November ballot to give voters a choice, so I put a team of people together, mostly volunteers to help me collect petition signatures. After hou

Laura Thompson Headed for Runoff August 2nd to Secure District 120 Interim State Rep Seat

Laura Thompson is changing the game, as it relates to the District 120 State Rep contest. The seat has always been held by a Democrat and when Thompson decided to run as an Independent many eyebrows were raised and lots of snickering went on behind the scenes. With a sense of humility, Thompson held her head up and forged forward, just like she's known to do in any project that she undertakes.  An opportunity presented itself for Thompson to run in the Special Election in May and she rose to the occasion and decided to go for it.  Thompson was a victor in the race. Although she came in first, she didn't get fifty percent of the vote, so she is faced with a runoff. Much to the surprise of many, Thompson was the number one vote getter out of four opponents.  She was the one Independent out of all her Democrat opponents. She could very well make history in August if she is able to pull off a victory for the interim seat. Thompson also plans to be on the November ballot in

Open Carry in Full Affect - Texas

As a matter of fact the very last blog that I wrote is when Texas passed the open carry law.  Now, as of January 1st, the open carry law has gone into effect.  I don't know how anyone else feels about the law, but I feel a little uneasy, a little vulnerable, a little afraid...I can't shake it. Fortunately for me, I haven't actually seen anyone carry openly, but I must admit I expected to see a lot of people showcasing their new freedom to carry a gun in public.  I didn't go out new year's eve or the whole weekend for that matter because I was under the weather, but Monday I fully expected to see a strong display of people carrying guns....I was again, very afraid. I personally don't like guns, but there are some that do.  I do however think that we've jumped the gun (no pun intended) on passing the law before we implemented a plan to really educate people on what the law means, how to deal wit
