Agency and IADT-International Academy of Design and Technology will host a
screening of a documentary entitled “Dreams Come True: A Living History”. The screening will be held in the Carver Library
at 3350 E. Commerce St. The event is
free and open to the public. The
documentary has been running on Time Warner Cable since January 2nd,
but the screening will be the first actual public showing of the documentary.
Laura Thompson Agency partnered with IADT to
give students an opportunity to gain valuable experience for their portfolios
and to foster relationships with entities that see the value in enhancing San
Antonio through cultural projects.
Community Leaders featured in the documentary
include Doris and Eunice Callies (spoke on behalf of the late Reverend R.A.
Callies), former Mayor Henry Cisneros, Aaronetta Pierce, the late E. Thurman
Walker, the late Claude W. Black Jr., and Dr. Bernard Harris.
The documentary will highlight some of the
story about the origin of the San Antonio MLK March, the origin of the Martin
Luther King Jr. Commission and stories from community leaders about education,
community service and leaving legacies in the African American community in San
Antonio. The Office of Cultural Affairs,
HEB, and World Video Dimensions sponsored the documentary.
Students and staff from IADT did the
production work, World Video Dimensions did the interviews and shot video
sessions, Ryan Newton, a high school student, provided the editing and Laura
Thompson Agency was the executive producer.
The documentary is 26 minutes of passion,
great stories and historical information that is a must see for San Antonio residents. As a native San Antonian, Laura Thompson
says, “It is a story that had to be told; a story that captures only a portion
of the rich African American history in San Antonio”. Laura Thompson is an advertising executive
and CEO of Laura Thompson Agency and felt that as the owner of an ad agency, a
native of San Antonio and as an African American that it is her responsibility
to ensure that messages are generated in our city that reflect the many
contributions made my African Americans.
Laura Thompson Agency is a 14 year old San
Antonio based firm and has been promoting the achievements of African Americans
in San Antonio through billboard campaigns, publishing the Who’s Who in San
