Who Has the Right to Bear Arms?

by Laura Thompson

There is a great parallel between felonies and open carry.  The system is changing.  There is a lot of blatant acts of violence that have risen I'd say over the past 4 to 5 years.  A system of unspoken slavery has lifted it's ugly face again in America...the prison system.  There have been countless excused murders of mostly African American men across the country and accountability is almost nonexistent.

There is a rise of police brutality targeted towards young African American women.  There are examples of violence and murders across the country that is sending a message of fear in African Americans that many of us thought we had overcome.  This message of fear shakes the soul of many people, not just African Americans.

The land of the free and the land of opportunity is going through a transitional, transformation and transferring of power like none of us have witnessed in this lifetime.  With the passing of the open carry law in Texas and the right to bear arms, the laws that were meant to protect have been snatched away from many African American men who have been prepped not to qualify to bear arms.  Felons don't have a right to bear arms.

So the right to protect their families and themselves have been stripped away, yet open carry prevails, and yet I'm not seeing a balance of fairness and equity.

A group of people praying in church were murdered and the media used words like "suspect and accused" in many of the headlines and described the young assailant, as troubled.  Seven were murdered.  A motorcycle (gang) group went on a rampage in Waco, Texas
killing multiple people, they were arrested, but with dignity.  Multiple people were killed in a movie theater and now is on trial...pleaded insanity.  Police officers are routinely killing, disrespecting and abusing African Americans across the country...African Americans are being arrested and charged with felonies...and have no right to bear arms...no right to protect themselves and their families, absolutely no rights.

Many walk free, after murder is apparent.  Walking the streets is a fearful experience for African Americans in this country.  Solutions for this behavior is difficult to put our fingers on.

My heart goes out to the innocent victims who have lost their lives at the hands of deranged, insensitive individuals who literally walk away free.

Not saying that we are always innocent, but killing individuals for petty crimes is uncalled for.  And using the excuse of insanity to relieve individuals from murdering innocent people is sickening.  We're living in a sick and scary time.

How do we protect our communities and families?  Who has the right to bear arms?
