Batman...a Make Believe Character...Could Have Influenced Shooting Spree

Murder Suspect of Batman Premiere in Aurora, Colorado
By Laura Thompson

I was quite saddened and my heart deeply touched by the outbreak of the young man, suspect James Holmes, who went on a shooting rampage at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.  I had never heard of Aurora before, but I won't soon forget it now.  It hit me right in the core of my heart to know that some young man could have gone so far off the edge and make a decision to act out such a horrific violent crime.

Just from the news coverage, it seemed that he may be a loner and maybe disconnected from reality.  He would almost have to be living in a world without much interaction with family and friends and not a lot of access to love and hugs.  Something terrible must have happened in his life that he was unable to overcome.  I just feel kind of off centered right now and disconnected from how a person can get so far removed from reality...it happens and it happened, but God help him and watch over all the families affected.

We often wonder what makes people commit such unthinkable acts, but if we look around us...a lot of people live in very isolated...make believe worlds with little contact with people on an important personal or intimate level.

Our minds, if not focused, can cause us to believe and act out make believe scenarios that lead to this type of tragedy.  My heart goes out to James Holmes family and certainly to the victims of the incident.

I hope that all of us can take a look at ourselves or family members to evaluate what could possibly be going on in their lives, minds and hearts.  Sometimes we often view isolation, as a nonsocial situation and just dismiss the actions of people we know and love, as "that's just the way they are", but sometimes...a lot of times they are suffering and struggling with something bigger than them.

Try to reach out and touch your hard to love family and friends or try to find help for them, so that they can realize they are loved and hope these types of tragedies will not repeat themselves too many times.  Get away from your day to day routines to reach out and get to know what's going on in the lives of your family and friends. Get into their business sometimes, if things don't seem right...go out of your way to love them in a way that helps to turn their lives around and that way they won't have to act out scenes in a Batman movie to get attention or revenge.
